Although the spring season may seem like it’s brimming with golf tournaments and events, Golf-Fore-Charity is a unique community event that brings together over 50 groups for golf, a live and silent auction, dinner, and a lifestyle expo with demonstrations. The event is for both golfers and non-golfers alike and benefits many local non-profit organizations, most notably St. Vincent de Paul.
The 2015 event raised $165,000, the majority of which went to St. Vincent de Paul to feed, clothe, and house families in need throughout the state. While St. Vincent de Paul is once again the primary recipient of 2016 proceeds, over 20 other non-profits will also receive funds from Golf-Fore-Charity. These groups include Make-a-Wish Foundation of AZ, Foothills Food Banks, Aid to Adoption of Special Kids, Maggie’s Place, and the Special Olympics.
For golfers, it’s hard to beat a tournament with cash prizes held in two premier Arizona golf course communities: Troon and Desert Highlands. Both golf clubs host the golf tournament, while the dinner gala is hosted at Troon Country Club. The tournament is a scramble style, plus hole-in-one competitions for cars and a $10,000 prize.
For the non-golfers, the afternoon can be spent at “Glamour on the Green” browsing makeup booths, taking in a fashion show or cooking demonstration, and tasting wine.
Golf-Fore-Charity is organized by Our Lady of Joy Knights of Columbus, a Catholic-based hospitality service organization headquartered in Carefree, AZ. The organization is made up of Catholic men who are “dedicated to Fraternity, Faith, Charity and Patriotism.” The organization started over 125 years ago and is thought to be one of the largest fraternal beneficial organizations in the world. In addition to the Golf-Fore-Charity events, the Knights are active throughout the church and community and host other events, include a car show and wine tasting.
Registration starts at 10:30 am on April 25 with a shotgun start to the tournament at 12 pm and lunch at the turn. The silent auction and lifestyle expo starts at 3 pm, then dinner and the live auction round out the day at 6:15 pm.
