The Millennium Day Spa in north Scottsdale has just opened one of the only Himalayan salt rooms in the Valley. Even better than an afternoon at the beach, spending time in a Himalayan salt room give you the positive benefits of the negative ions that salt gives off (minus those UV rays).
Salt therapy is thought help with several skin and breathing issues. Your skin absorbs the salt in the air, which helps add moisture and rejuvenate your skin, possibly even reducing eczema. The salt also promotes younger looking skin. Inhaling salt can help reduce inflammation and mucus in the lungs, which makes breathing a little easier for those with asthma or suffering from our local AZ allergies. The effects are thought to even help with bronchitis and sinus congestion.
So what makes the Himalayan salt so spectacular? Himalayan salt is a pure mineral salt that contains more than 80 minerals, including zinc, sulfate, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The minerals have naturally moisturizing properties that encourage water balance. This is much different than our standard table salt, also known as sodium chloride, which actually dehydrates us. The Himalayan salt room at this Scottsdale spa is lined with the good stuff, unrefined and mined from caves that are over 250 million years old.
How does it work? In the Himalayan salt-lined room there is a pink salt lamp. It absorbs water and particles from the air, then strips the air of positive ions. The salt is heated and releases cleansed water vapor back into the air, replacing the positive ions with negative ions. In addition to the major skin and breathing benefits, Himalayan salt is also reported to promote healthy sleep, improve circulation, support weight loss, lower blood pressure and prevent muscle cramps.
The Scottsdale spa salt therapy is offered in 30-minute treatments. You can try it once for $40 or buy a package. If you’re interested in more of a true spa experience, there is a packages that includes the salt treatment plus reflexology. All salt treatments require an appointment. You can also purchase a slab of Himalayan salt to take home and try different cooking and curing recipes.
At Pinnacle Peak Road and Hayden Road, Millennium Day Spa is convenient to several Arizona golf communities including Grayhawk, DC Ranch and Troon North. Of course there is no lack of Scottsdale spas, but this treatment is a standout over the typical massage and facial. Why not try something new that may benefit your health? Get a little salty this summer!
