Whisper Rock listed as one of the toughest tee times in the U.S.

Golf.com recently released a list of the toughest tee times in the U.S. and one of our own Scottsdale golf courses made the cut. Whisper Rock Golf Club slid in at the number 10 position.

The Phil Mickelson and Tom Fazio-designed courses at Whisper Rock Golf Club are a true desert oasis featuring 36 holes of challenging championship golf. What might be more impressive than the greens is the line-up of members. Of course Phil Mickelson tops the list, plus other big PGA Tour names like Geoff Ogilvy, Billy Mayfair, Aaron Baddeley and Tim Herron. There are plenty of other single-digit handicap players with memberships, too. It’s exclusivity certainly plays to why it’s hard to score a tee time. In fact, you can’t even access the club’s website without a log in.

“By Scottsdale standards, landing a tee time is very tough, though maybe not as tough as keeping your composure when the largely low-single-digit handicap members turn to watch closely as you step up to the tee.”
Golf.com description of Whisper Rock Golf Club

The Whisper Rock Golf Club is tucked away in North Scottsdale near Troon North and Terravita. With Pinnacle Peak to the east and Carefree to the north, the location provides serene, breathtaking desert backdrops. The two courses feature room off the tees, modest rough, shallow bunkers and open putting surfaces. Expect a challenge, even for experienced players and professionals. Precision and angles are key.
Club president Gregg Tryhus comments that the courses cater to “a lot of good players who are looking for great golf that can be played in a powerful way.”
Other courses that made the toughest tee times list include Burning Tree in Bethesda, MD; Fisher’s Island Golf Club in Fisher’s Island, NY; The Country Club in Brookline, MA; Los Angeles Country Club, CA; San Francisco Golf Club, CA; Seminole Golf Club in North Palm Beach, FL; Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, CA and Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Valley, NJ. The number one toughest tee time should come as no surprise: Augusta National Golf Club in August, GA.
We know that we are lucky enough to have a plethora of Scottsdale golf courses here, each with their own beauty and challenges. In fact, that’s why more and more people and retirees are choosing to make Scottsdale their home. If you’re interested in a Scottsdale golf home contact the Matheson Team they will get you on the tour (home tour that is, not PGA tour)!
