OdySea is building anticipation for marine adventures in the Scottsdale desert

Residents of Scottsdale golf homes may have noticed some interesting construction recently as they commuted on the Pima Loop 101: the OdySea Aquarium broke ground on March 15 just east of the Via de Ventura exit and builders have made steady progress since then. However, the building spectacle recently grew even larger when the aquarium’s giant cement walls were raised on September 11.
Construction on the planned 14-acre theme park will only get more interesting as it progresses. The Life Support Systems with more than 300 pumps will go in later this month, followed by concrete tanks and acrylic viewing windows. Some of the windows will soar over 40 feet tall and will require a 200-ton crane to place them into the tanks.
As construction grows, so does the anticipation of the innovative new attraction. The multi-level aquarium plans include large-scale exhibits, touch pools, a 3-D theater, themed café, gift shop, and more. Acrylic tube walkways will get you from one exhibit to the next. It’s rumored that even the restrooms will include acrylic aquarium viewing walls so that visitors never miss a second of the aquatic action.
The highlight of OdySea may be the SeaTREK Experience. You’ll actually be able to walk under the water “along the ocean floor” to observe marine animals in their natural habitats. The guided tour won’t require diver certification or even knowing how to swim!
OdySea will feature a variety of exhibits and environments, from fresh water rivers to salt water reefs. Penguins, sharks, jellyfish, octopus, seahorses, turtles, eels, and sting-rays are just few of the thousands of creatures you can expect to see.
Scottsdale’s OdySea Aquarium is part of the same group that operates the popular Butterfly Wonderland. The website promises more surprises and secrets to be revealed when it opens to the public in July 2016, just in time to escape the summer heat. For pre-opening membership prices and to view construction progress, visit the OdySea Aquarium website.
OdySea will join the ranks of other local family attractions like Butterfly Wonderland, Top Golf, and spring training baseball that make Scottsdale golf homes and communities such great places to live.
