5 ways to celebrate this Labor Day weekend around Arizona golf communities

Staying in town for Labor Day weekend? There are tons of activities going on around Arizona golf communities across the Valley to help you and your family celebrate the last weekend of summer!
Take a look at a few below and be sure to make the most of the long weekend:
1. 9/11 Heroes Run
What better way to kick off Labor Day weekend than with a 5K fun run honoring first responders and military heroes? The 9/11 Heroes Run starts at 7:30 am on September 5th at Tempe Beach Park. Proceeds benefit the Travis Manion Foundation and are invested back into the local community. Post-race festivities immediately following the race include a patriotic ensemble contest, kid’s corner, live music and vendor village. Individual registration is $32 for the 5K and $12 for a 1-mile Fun Run. You can also donate in addition to or instead of registering to run.
2. Phoenix Cooks!
Join Valley foodies for a day of good eats and savory drinks. The Phoenix Cooks culinary event will be held September 5th at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa starting at 10 am. Over 50 local chefs, restaurants and mixologists will be on hand to pass out samples of their best food and drinks. An $85 admission ticket online, or $100 day of, is good for all you can eat and drink. You can also book a staycation package at the resort starting at $289 and including overnight accommodations plus tickets to the event. 2015 is expected to be the biggest event in Phoenix Cooks’ 11-year history.
3. Luau & Pig Roast
Cave Creek mainstay Harold’s Corral turns 80 this month and is hosting all sorts of events to celebrate. The northern location is ideal for those in Anthem, Rancho Manana and Desert Mountain who don’t want to travel too far. On Sunday, September 6 you can take part in an authentic Hawaiian Luau and pig roast starting at 4:30 pm. Activities include Hawaiian dancers, a limbo contest, fire knife dance, two buffets, and kids’ activities. On the buffets you’ll find Mahi Mahi, steak, pork, shrimp and all sorts of southwestern and traditional Hawaiian fare. Purchase tickets online or at the door – $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12.
4. Arizona Reggae Fest
On September 4, 5 and 6 Scottsdale’s WestWorld will be transformed with the sights, sounds and smells of Caribbean island life. Arizona Reggae Fest, the largest reggae event in Arizona, includes shopping, eating, cultural exhibits, and of course live performances from local, national and international reggae artists. Tickets start at $25 for one day and can be purchased online or at the gate.
5. Brews Cruise
Grab your bathing suit, hop on your beach cruiser and get ready for some adult beverage shenanigans! The San Tan Labor Day Brews Cruise is happening in Old Town Scottsdale on Sunday, September 6. For only $25, or $30 day of, you get a pizza buffet and San Tan Brewery beer at Grimaldi’s, then a San Tan brew of your choice at the next three cruise stops, also in Old Town. Cruisers meet at 1 pm at Grimaldi’s.
Whereever your adventures take you this Labor Day weekend, stay safe and wear sunblock!
