What’s in and what’s out in 2017?

What’s in and what’s out for 2017?  Fads come and go and if your plans are to sell your home anytime soon, your best plan of action is to stay abreast of what is trending in interior and exterior design and to follow it.
However, you don’t have to spend huge sums of money and chase the trends to have the look of an elegant and timeless décor when getting your home ready for the market.

Often homes with the most neutral color palette sell the quickest with the highest return.  It is easier for buyers to see themselves and their furnishings in a home that doesn’t have a lot of “glitz and glam” or bold colors and design.
But if you plan to paint or do some minor remodels, where are we headed this year in home design?
While white is still quite popular for trending kitchen design, white-on-white is on the way out.  A stark minimalist approach in any room or the extreme once popular “glitz and glam” throughout the home is also out!
But overall, interior design is being toned down this year, way down, with warmer expressions in color.  Less severity and more contrasting colors will work well for 2017, both inside and outside of the home.
That ever popular gray is out and has been replaced with deep grayish blues and purples.  Metallic colors continue to be “in” with the exception of copper that is already “out”.  However, that’s not true for Arizona where coper mining has been a major industry since the 19th century. The shiny color of copper and exterior application of real copper trim will always be vogue here in the Southwest.
Mid-Century Modern is dated and is on course for an exit stage left, so hurry and get all those furniture items to a consignment shop before the tide drastically turns.  However, a classic Mid-Century Modern exterior design is timeless and remains in high demand.
Heavy industrial themes used in the interior of a residential home will no longer be trending in 2017, but commercial application of large format tile and stark commercial appliances will still be the rage.
Working on getting your home ready to sell in 2017?  Contact a real estate agent early in the processes so you don’t spend needless money correcting a fashion faux pas.
