Golf Course at The Country Club at DC Ranch reopens July 4th with renovated bunkers

After a 1-month closure, the golf course at The Country Club at DC Ranch in North Scottsdale reopens this Friday with renovated green-side bunkers, better green drainage and new controllers for watering systems making more efficient use of water.  Annual summer maintenance is complete, too – greens, fairways and roughs were aerified and top dressed.

Golf is a favorite pastime for The Matheson Team and we’re excited about this project at DC Ranch.  It demonstrates The Country Club’s commitment to the long term:  Making the course more playable, and reducing water usage and cost.
Bill Kostes, Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent led the $600,000+ project.   Bill and his team removed sand and wool liners; checked and repaired drainage lines;  adjusted bunkers with steep slopes and added ramps for easier entry and exit.  Once the dirt was tamped down, a new liner, called “Linebacker” was installed.

“Linebacker” is cement-looking and made of inorganic, eco-friendly materials.  It prevents dirt and rocks from getting underneath.
“Linebacker” is poured then troweled with openings where the drainage exists. Once laid, the base almost looks like a large fish fossil.
Sand from the old bunkers was repurposed for top-dressing.  New sand is an even mix of Arizona Pit and Augusta White.
These renovations are sure to make the bunkers more playable.  We can’t wait to try them out on July 4th!
