Spotlight on the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club near Fountain Hills

Just a few miles east of Scottsdale and Fountain Hills sits the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, part of the We-Ko-Pa Resort and the Fort McDowell Casino family. From stunning Sonoran Desert views to challenging courses and PGA lessons, this club, located only a few minutes from the city, is far from ordinary.

Stand on either the Saguaro or Cholla course and you are surrounded by pristine, breathtaking views of the McDowell Mountains, Red Mountain, Four Peaks, and the Superstition Mountains. Each 18-hole championship course is unique. The Cholla course is just as challenging as it is beautiful, with no residential or commercial development in site. Scott Miller designed the course, which opened to the public in 2001 to much acclaim. Sports Illustrated was quick to name it as one of the “10 best new public courses in the world.”
While offering similar views, the Saguaro course features greens more closely situated to the tees with wider corridors. Golfers are actually encouraged to walk the Saguaro course and follow the natural lay of the land. Saguaro has also received many awards and honors, like Golfweek’s fourth best casino course in the U.S. and 30th best resort course in America.
After playing the courses, or if you have limited time to hit the greens, the practice facility offers some of the same stunning views as the courses. Unlimited practice balls, target greens, four putting greens, a chipping green, and even club cleaners round out the amenities. PGA pros are also available for private instruction.
Don’t forget about grabbing some golf gear at the pro shop before you go – voted one of the 100 Best Golf Shops by Golf World Business. And a drink or casual meal after your game. The 10,000 square foot clubhouse includes the pro shop, lounges and a full service restaurant.
If you love the stunning desert and mountain views that We-Ko-Pa offers, you can rest assured that they will always be there. Since the golf club sits on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation land, the area will never be commercially developed – a rare find in a golf course near a major city.
As with most courses and clubs in Arizona golf communities, the rates vary with the seasons. In the summer months, you can strike a 36-hole deal and play two rounds (within 72 hours) for $120. The same 36 holes will cost $380 in peak season, January-April. The deal includes green fees, a golf cart and practice balls. You can book this deal and standard tee times online. The club also offers a We-Ko-Pass, like a club for frequent golfers. The cardholder can take advantage of free play at the casino, discounts at the pro shop and resort spa, a cap, special pass holder rates and early access to special events.
Located off of Shea Boulevard, the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is just a few miles from Scottsdale golf homes and communities, yet being there can feel like a vacation. This is an excellent club to put in your regular golf course rotation for those living near SunRidge Canyon, too.
