Scottsdale Museum of the West opens this week

The $11.4 million city-owned museum nestled in the art district of downtown Scottsdale has partnered with Arizona State University in an effort to enable the museum to not only attract and feature rotating exhibits of western art and treasures from around the world but to allow for an engagement of communication and studies of the West.
The entrance to the Scottsdale Museum of the West is via the Scottsdale Charros Gateway Foyer, where the dramatic 9’ x 16’ mural of Kit Carson with Mountain Men by Maynard Dixon will set the tone for up to 118,000 expected annual visitors. The 43,000 sq. ft. museum will host 8 galleries with 78 moveable walls of varying height to allow custom configurations for unique exhibits, and will include a theater.
Filling those 8 galleries for the grand opening include exhibits of bronze, saddles spurs and other quintessentially Western items, past and contemporary western art, an exhibit of the explorations of Lewis and Clark throughout the West, and a walk down Heritage Hall to reflect on the images of people who have and continue to contribute to the America West.
So bring the entire family and immerse yourself in the Spirit of the West through narrative, art and interactive experiences.
Admission is $13 for adults, $11 for seniors and active military, $8 for students and children ages 6 to 17, under 5 years of age is free. Located at 3830 N. Marshall Way, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Or visit on Thursday evenings when enjoying the Scottsdale ArtWalk when the museum will have extended hours through 9:30 pm.
