Scottsdale golf club receives top honors from Marriott

Marriott Golf, a huge player in the resort golf industry, recently announced its annual awards for golf excellence. The company reviewed properties from its entire portfolio, which includes resorts and golf clubs from literally around the world. Our own JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club brought home a Scottsdale golf club top honor with the Golf Grounds Manager of the Year.

Aaron Thomas is the Director of Grounds Management at the JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club. Not only does he maintain the day-to-day operations of the two championship golf courses (Ambiente and Padre), but he was also part of the team that lead a renovation of the club and courses. One of Thomas’ crowning achievements is figuring out how to use natural resources in the grassing plan – no easy feat in the desert! In the end his grassing plan conserved 30+ millions of gallons of the property’s water last year alone.
To qualify for and earn the honor, Thomas and the Scottsdale golf club had to meet rigorous criteria, including turf grass condition, successful large-scale renovation, satisfaction scores, loss prevention, staff development and continuing education from the Golf Course Superintendents Association.
According to Marriott Golf’s Senior Director of Grounds David Robinson, Thomas was an easy choice. “There are so many talented individuals working across our portfolio of properties and Aaron stands at the head of the class for his exceptional performance and commitment to excellence,” commented Robinson.
The JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club is most notably associated with the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa on Mockingbird Lane in Scottsdale. The Scottsdale golf club and resort boast not just one golf course, but two championship courses and 36 holes set amidst stunning mountain, desert and sunset views. Each course was designed by a different architect, Ambiente designed by Jason Straka and Padre designed by Arthur Hill, and each offers a unique challenge.
The other two Marriott properties earning top awards are the La Iguana Golf Course at Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Costa Rica for Golf Property of the Year and Toftrees Golf Club in State College, Pennsylvania for Golf Professional of the Year.
Congratulations to the JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club on all their hard work and achievements in the last few years! Just one more example of how a Scottsdale golf club is creating a welcoming Arizona golf community for both residents and visitors. Interested in owning a property along award-winning greens?
