Take your dog for a leash-less day to one of 4 dog parks in and near Scottsdale

dog parks in and near Scottsdale

The Matheson Team loves dogs; all tolled our team has 11 canines who love to run. These 4 off-leash dog parks in and near Scottsdale give a much needed treat to our 4-legged friends.
Dog parks are popular around the country and give our dogs a place to run freely and socialize with other dogs. Your pet will have an even better experience if you pay close attention to them on your recreational visit.

While exercise at the park is crucial to your dog’s physical and mental health, be sure to take them for a walk before going to the park to burn some energy off first. Once you are at the park be sure to watch your dog’s body language, if she’s relaxed it’s a good sign she’s enjoying her play time; if she’s tense, it’s best you intervene or take her home for the day.
Fountain Hills: Dog Park at Desert Vista Park The city tells us that this off-leash park is one of the most used amenities in Fountain Hills. The Dog Recreation facility is 3 fenced acres divided into an area for large dogs and another for small dogs. For small dogs use the entrance on Tower Road. There are fountains for pets and people.
Details: Open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Desert Vista Park, 11800 Desert Vista, Fountain Hills. 480-816-5100
Scottsdale: Horizon Park  is two-thirds of an acre and has drinking fountains for pooches and people, a shade structure and a dust control system when it is dry. The park is in a storm-water retention basin and sometimes it floods after a big rain.  You can bring two dogs age 4 months or more when you visit. Children 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Details: Open sunrise to sunset daily; closed 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for maintenance. 15444 N. 100th St., Scottsdale. 480-312-2650
Scottsdale: Vista Del Camino is also a small but well-thought out off-leash dog park.  It has a double-gated entry, doggie water fountain, shade trees and benches. Children 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Enter off Hayden Road and turn west toward the greenbelt onto Pierce Street. The dog park is north of the parking area.
Details: Sunrise to 10:30 p.m. 7800 E. Pierce St., Scottsdale. 480-312-2330
Scottsdale: Chaparral Park is a 4 acre off-leash recreation park for dogs.  3 of the 4 acres are grassed.  Rather than section the park by big and small canines, the park has areas for active and passive doges.  The park is lit, there are fountains for dogs and owners, seating, doggie doo-doo bags and a host of play features for your dogs like tunnels and sand.
Details: Open 6 a.m.-10 p.m. daily except Tuesdays and Fridays, when it’s closed 8 a.m.-noon for maintenance. Opens at 5:30 a.m. May 1-Oct. 31. 5401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. 480-312-2353 or 480-312-9663
Rules of the Dog Parks are, for the most part, the same:

  • Dogs must have a visible current city license
  • Pick-up and dispose of dog waste in bags provided (bring your own just in case)
  • Agressive dog or people behavior is not permitted
  • Keep gates closed
  • Owners must be in the facility with their dog/s at all times
  • Keep dogs on 6 foot or less leash until inside the park
  • Keep the 6 foot or less leash with you at all times
  • Owners are responsible for repairing damage caused by the dog (e.g. hole digging)
  • Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult (at Desert Vista children until 12 must be accompanied by an adult)
  • Dogs must listen to voice commands
  • Dogs in heat and dogs less than 4 months are not permitted in the parks
  • Dog owners are responsible for the acts of their dogs
  • Food and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the parks

Rather than reaching for the dog cookie jar, treat your dog to a dog-party at one of the 4 Scottsdale area dog parks.  We are your go-to resource for community information, events and real estate.
