Scottsdale Airport to receive more international flights due to Customs upgrades

Due to recent upgrades to their Customs services, Scottsdale Airport is now able to receive more international flights. In addition to increasing the hours of the U.S. Customs office earlier this year, the city hired a second Customs Officer.  The move was made in response to the increasing number of private international planes landing in Scottsdale.
While the city has been accepting international flights since 2001, the recent increase in customs services was made in response to feedback from owners and operators of the privately owned planes who use the airport.

The upgrades to Scottsdale Airport are just one more reason to either visit or buy property in the Scottsdale area. For more information on listings in the Scottsdale area, contact a Scottsdale real estate expert on the Matheson Team today for more information.
While the Customs office used to operate from 9:00 am-5:00 pm Monday to Friday, the airport is now open from 9:00 am-7:00 pm, seven days a week.
Future upgrades that are planned for the airport include:

  1. Renovations to increase runway durability on Taxiway A and B to increase the weight limit of planes allowed to land from 75,000 pounds to around 100,000 pounds. This increase will allow larger planes to land in Scottsdale.  According to Michael Clancy’s article in the Arizona Republic, a non-stop, 6,000 mile flight from Moscow recently touched down at Scottsdale Airport, a feat that would have been impossible for a lighter plane.
  2. A new Airport Operations Center will be constructed at the cost of $3 million.

Fun fact: Most international flights landing in Scottsdale come from Mexico and Canada, but the airport has recently accepted planes traveling from Croatia, Israel and the Philippines.
