Putting Greens and a Golf Course View!

Does adding a putting green to your yard add value to your home?  Good question!  If you live in a golf community the answer is transparent and a simple yes.
Whether you are leaning toward a DIY weekend project or plan to have it professionally designed and installed, you need to know some basics before moving ahead.

Be “fore” you start you’ll first want to check with your HOA and find out if artificial turf or a putting green is permissible in your subdivision.  Just because your neighbor has one doesn’t mean he’s in compliance with the CC&R’s.
If a putting green is allowed, get a hard copy of the design review guidelines and take them with you when you go purchase the materials or to select a vendor.  The guidelines will state any setbacks, whether a side yard location is permissible, the type and color of turf that is allowed and what procedures or approvals are required by the Home Owner’s Association before installation.  In fact, it might be a good idea to save the approval or guidelines for the next property owner.
Next, do some preliminary research and create a list of questions to ask your vendor.  Whether you are doing the job yourself or having it professionally installed you will want to ask about the warranty for the artificial turf and workmanship, microfibers vs. primary fibers, flammability, and UV protection.  So ask for color recommendations since the lighter the shade, typically the cooler it will be in direct sunlight.
You’ll want to know whether a putting green should be high, medium or low density and ask about price per square foot and the final dollar amount for the design, purchase of products and installation.
Ask how to avoid the putting green wrinkle effect that seems to come with age, a result of the huge temperature fluctuations here in the Southwest.  Be sure to ask about the proper base that is required, infill and seaming techniques plus grab tear strength.  Grab tear what?  Exactly, and that’s why we recommend you doing your legwork before making any decisions.
If you’ve been considering a putting green for your yard, we have the perfect seminar that will answer all your questions.  The seminar is Friday, July 14th and Saturday, July 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the Maricopa County Home Show.  You’ll need to pay the $8 admission fee to get into the home and landscape show and while you’re there you’ll want to check out the many vendors that offer specials and on-site discounts.
Once your personal putting green is installed you can practice your short game and entertain guests!  Looking for a great golf home or golf villa in Arizona?  Contact The Matheson Team who specialize in golf properties!
