Get out of the summer sun at the new RoadHouse Cinemas

Just in time for the summer’s sweltering heat, Arizona-based RoadHouse Cinemas has just opened up near Talking Stick Golf Club and Scottsdale golf homes! The company’s first Phoenix area cinema with dine-in theater (they operate another theater in Tucson) just opened on May 13 and is sure to be a great place to spend a weekday afternoon or fun weekend date night.

If a dine-in theater in the Pavilions shopping center at Indian Bend and the Loop 101 sounds familiar, that’s because Ultra Star used to own and operate the same dinner and movie concept there. That theater closed and RoadHouse saw its opportunity.
They loaded in about $3 million of renovations, gutting a lot of the interior, adding new leather recliners, updating the movie technology, and stocking the bar and restaurant. Since no Arizona restaurant is complete without an alfresco area, they added an outdoor patio area with fire pit.
RoadHouse Cinema is aiming to carve out a new place for themselves in the theater market. “It will be an experience,” said RoadHouse Cinemas President Josh Snider. For instance, at the new bar and restaurant in the cinema’s lobby they serve local craft beer and wine. Plus the food is all made in house, including flatbread pizzas and even cheesecake. Certainly not the stale popcorn and shipped-in pretzels that theater goers are used to finding at the concession stand!
Now if this sounds like a great place for date night over family night, you’re probably right. RoadHouse Cinemas is decidedly geared toward adults and a more grown-up crowd. That’s certainly going to be appealing to some people, but a deterrent to others (think spring-breaking family here for spring training). Children under six are not even allowed in unless they are seeing a child-friendly flick, and the theater is mandating that children under 13 will not be allowed in to see R-rated movies, even with parents.
If you’ve never enjoyed the ease and pampering of a dine-in theater, here’s what you can expect. You pay for your dine-in ticket and head to the specific theater. Before the movie, servers and staff will be meandering and ask if they can get you anything. It’s usually best to take a look at the menu and order before the movie starts, since looking at the menu in a dark theater may be tricky. No one wants to see you using your phone flashlight!
Once the movie starts, or if you don’t see any staff, you can push a call button to bring someone over. The staff member will discretely sneak into the theater and crouch down next to your chair to take your order, deliver your food and drinks, then drop off the check towards the end of the movie. Even if you have dinner ahead of time, or if your movie does not coincide with a traditional meal time, you can order drinks (including alcoholic) and traditional snacks.
RoadHouse Cinemas also offers reserved seating when you buy your tickets online. The bonus to buying online with RoadHouse is that you can also reschedule your tickets if something comes up, like a cancelled babysitter or feeling under the weather.
So when the summer starts heating up in your AZ golf home and you need a cool escape complete with recliner-side service, RoadHouse Cinemas is a good place to go!
