Native Trails at Scottsdale Civic Center Park
This is the 12th year of Native Trails and it all starts this week and runs through the first week in April. This free outdoor event is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the tribes of the First Nations of Arizona and North America.
The Hopi, Dine (Navajo), Akimel Au-Authm and San Carlos Apache and other tribes take turns sharing their cultural heritage and tribal traditions through dance, music and storytelling in these annual performances.
Why not spend your lunch break at the amphitheater at Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, adjacent to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, and enjoy this cultural treat. Can’t fit it in your busy schedule during the week? Bring the entire family out on a Saturday. If you don’t want to stand, bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the soft green grass of the park.
Food vendors are usually on site or you can enjoy the restaurants that are located along the perimeter of the mall. There will also be native artisans and jewelry makers sharing their wares which makes for a special gift.
Native Trails takes place from Noon to 1:00 pm on the following dates:
January 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24
February 12, 14, 19, 26 & 28
March 5, 26 & 28
April 2, 4
You’ll want to go more than once because each tribe’s story and music are unique and inspirational.
There is plenty of space on the lawn for the children to romp, and leashed pets are welcome as well. Don’t forget your camera!
The address for the Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater is 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd, Scottsdale 85251; you won’t be able to see the amphitheater or the address from the street.
