The Hermosa Inn’s “Last Drop Bar”, opens their doors to the public with an invitation to their monthly mixology class where they highlight one specific liquor and evaluate its style, history and the merits of different recipes.
This month’s selection, tequila, humorously referred to as “to-kill-you” in the Southwest, is derived from the blue agave plants found in the highland regions of Mexico.  The class will focus on fresh locally grown ingredients in creating refreshing libations somewhat out of the ordinary!

Did you know? Tequila is one of the first North American distilled spirits and was first made in Tequila, Mexico. A very similar fermented beverage from the agave plant was made by the Aztec and the Spanish conquistadors. The founder of Sauza Tequila, Don Cenobio Sauza, was the first to export tequila to the US in the mid 1800’s.

Their next class is on Sunday, March 15th at 2:00 pm and the cost is $30. Class size caps at 10 for an intimate and fun afternoon of cocktail making and tasting.   The Hermosa Inn is located at 5532 North Palo Cristi in Paradise Valley.
The Jade Bar at Sanctuary, is offering a monthly mixology class for $30 per person and they can accommodate 20 participants in their luscious remodeled surroundings. You’ll learn the techniques of making 3-4 different cocktails with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, the details and history of each individual spirit and what combinations are preferable in enticing the taste buds to come alive.
For the rest of this month, the topics covered in the private Mixology 101 classes include:
March 14:             New World Whiskey – Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rye
March 21:             Punches – Communal drinking in Europe and the Colonies
March 28:             TIKI Tales – Tiki culture in America
The Sanctuary is located 5700 E McDonald Drive in Paradise Valley at the base of Camelback Mountain.
