The Kierland Golf Club is a unique golf facility in the Mecca of championship golf known as Scottsdale. This golf club combines the best of cutting-edge technology and innovation with strategic training and organized events to create a fun atmosphere for golfers of every age and skill level.
Three unique nine-hole courses make up the Kierland Golf Club, along with a practice facility and casual restaurant. The three courses are each named after native plant life found on the course and each are different in design and strategy. They can be combined to create three 18-hole combination courses, and are set against a backdrop of sun washed mountains, feature pristine greens, desert life, lakes, elevation changes and over 300 bunkers.
Before or after a game, players can hit the shaded driving range, chipping green or putting green. After a round of golf, there’s no better place to refuel than Brittlebush Bar & Grill. The lodge-style setting welcomes golfers back from hours out on the course, or simply serves as a unique place for resort guests to grab a meal. Food is locally sourced and as you’d expect from a fine Scottsdale restaurant, there’s a wide variety of Scotch available in the bar, along with beer and wine.
Courses and food aside, the club fondly refers to its physiological innovations on the course as “golfletics,” combing golf with other sports and modes of transportation. The club was the first in the country and still the only one in Scottsdale to offer Segways as a way to move about the greens. The custom-designed Segways hold everything you need during the game, from scorecards to tees, balls, and drinks. The emission-free vehicles are also quieter than carts and easier on the greens, keeping the club’s environmental impact to a minimum.
Segways aren’t the only ride available. You can also choose from golf bikes or golfboards to up your athletics. The golf bikes are fitted with two custom-design golf bags to carry a full set of clubs, plus small diameter wheels with wide rubber tires, making them easy to take just about anywhere on the course. Or try the golfboard and “surf” across the greens on an electric board. Snowboarders, surfers and skaters will feel right at home on them.
The Kierland Golf Club also takes instruction and training to a whole new level with their Fore-MAX Training System. Combining traditional instruction with course play, training, nutrition, and fitness, this personalized program can help everyone from the novice to the pro. The program is truly customizable and can even work as a fitness program for the non-golfer.
As part of the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, the Kierland Golf Club shares in the resort’s Scottish theme and fun season events. Every night at sunset, a bagpiper plays on the greens facing the resort as a way to “call in” the golfers. To take full advantage of the celebration of Scottish settlers in this part of the Valley, golfers can partake in a true Scottish Golf Experience. Rented kilts and Johnnie Walker beverage carts help bring this themed option full circle.
The golf club also hosts a variety of golf events and tournaments throughout the year. Coming up in December is the First Annual Kierland Championship, open to players of all skill levels. From October through April, the resort also hosts Friday Night Lights. This Friday evening of fun caters to people of all ages with golf games and contests, golf for kids, a glow putt course, music, drinks at the driving range, and even a 20-minute pro clinic.
