From color of the year to mixing up metals, there are plenty of ways to spruce up your home with design trends this year!
Color(s) of the Year
Bring on the green. Greenery, that is – the Pantone color of the year for 2017. This springy, natural color looks great with different wood finishes and stains. According to the Pantone Color Institute, the color is a symbol of fresh, new beginnings and renewed energy. Paint an accent wall, especially in a kitchen or bathroom, or bring in some Greenery serving dishes, towels or pillows.
If the Pantone color of the year is not quite your shade, turn to Benjamin Moore’s 2017 color of the year: Shadow. This rich purple color is bold and goes well with other jewel tones like ruby red and emerald green. The amethyst shade can be both dramatic and sophisticated.
Mixing Textures and Shades
Move over brushed silver, brushed brass finishes are in. Brushed or satin brass finishes, such as on cabinet handles or picture frames, are an easy way to add elegance to your space. Using a brushed brass mutes the shininess of the gold color, making it a great complement to a variety of existing home styles. And don’t be afraid to mix metals – brushed brass, rugged steel and chrome can all work surprisingly well together.
Speaking of mixing colors, try a little white and off white with your new brushed brass décor. A room dressed in only one color can look drab and monotone, and especially white can look sterile. But mixing up different shades of white and neutrals can add both depth and warmth. This design trend can be as easy as adding cream pillows or a linen duvet cover.
While freshening up your décor is purely subjective, what about some of these other design trends? Are you curious what changes and trends could add or decrease value in your home? Contact the Matheson Team to talk through your questions and ideas.
