The Fifth Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses and Horsepower will take to the WestWorld fields once again on October 24. While exciting polo matches and a clinic with some of the best pro players in the country are definitely top billing, the event has evolved into so much more than just polo.
Sometimes referred to as “polo for the masses,” the championships draw in a big crowd and welcome everyone, from polo fans to newbies. 2014’s record number of attendees – over 12,000 – took in polo matches plus unique fashion shows and exclusive auctions.
The World’s Longest Catwalk is a chance to see Arizona’s high fashion stretched over the approximately 200 yards across the field. Up and coming models, Arizona designers and even the players themselves will strut their stuff. Later on, the fashion will go to the dogs during the first ever Canine Couture runway show. Creativity counts as the pooches compete for trophies and cash prizes.
The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships adopted the Larsen Art Auction as part of the festivities last year, as well. The 2014 auction boasted a sell-through rate above 84% with bidders from 46 states and 33 different countries. Contemporary and fine art auction items can be previewed in advance starting October 1st at the Larsen Gallery in Scottsdale, or at the Larsen Art Auction Preview Party on October 21st.
Ever the well-rounded cultural experience, the 2015 event will also include a sneak peek at the famous Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, a tease for the upcoming Barrett-Jackson car auction in January and a performance by a Phoenix Symphony quartet.
The festivities kick off at 10am and go strong until 6pm. General admission into the polo party, including access to the Saguaro Hotel Hospitality Tent and the Heineken Pavilion, starts at $17.50 in advance or $27.50 at the door. Children 12 and under, active military and Veterans are all free. Reserved shaded picnic tables and access to VIP sponsor lounges are available for additional costs.
The Bentley Polo Championships and associated events are a great example of year-round activities taking place in and round Arizona golf communities. Many communities even host their own events like wine tastings, themed dinners and golf leagues. Interested in joining the Scottsdale golf homes fun?
