Family friendly Marston Exploration Theater, Tempe
Before you even step foot in the building you will want to stop and gawk at the replica of the Curiosity Rover that scurried around Mars picking up rocks to bring back to Earth.
Once inside, you’ll see stars in the theater’s Definiti SkySkan Planetarium which has a 4K projection systems with 3-D stereographic vision taking you into the next generation of planetarium experiences. The visual walk-throughs of outer space are the “real deal” based on actual research conducted by the ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE.) Of course there is additional content from other national and international organizations with cutting-edge discoveries as they come on line.
If this ignites the latent scientist in you, check out the SESE’s Fall colloquium series featuring speakers from MIT, Lowell Observatory, NASA’s JPL and others on topics ranging from walking and working in the vacuum of space to the detection of exoplanets.
Looking for lighter fare for the kids and family? Check out the Special Events programs. On October 25 and November 22 the Theater is holding free to the public open houses which include a topical public lecture and special visualizations in the Marston Theater, telescope viewing and other activities and displays in the Gallery of Scientific Exploration.
