Looking for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon in this beautiful Arizona weather? The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is once again hosting its Sunday A’Fair outdoor concert series, which just kicked off on January 10, 2016.
The cultural mainstay near Scottsdale golf homes is back for the 29th annual season and will host 10 free Sunday concerts featuring more than 20 musical acts. The concerts take place in the Civic Center Park just east of Old Town, next to the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets to enjoy the afternoon. The A’fair starts at noon and continues until 4 pm.
This year’s lineup of musicians includes every genre of music, from rockabilly to folk, blues, and classic rock and roll. Some days have themes, such as Peace & Community Day on January 17 and La Gran Fiesta: A Celebration of Latin and Hispanic Cultures on March 6. The series runs from January 10-April 3. This fun, free event does not stop at good music, either. While you can bring your own food to enjoy the show, foods from the grill, snacks, cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks can be purchased from vendors. An arts-and-crafts market showcases local vendors and goods like jewelry and textiles. There are also fun activities for families, and docents from the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (located next to the Center for Performing Arts) can guide you through the unique park sculptures on free tours.
Scottsdale is known for its celebration of art and culture, so the Sunday A’Fair concert series fits in perfectly with the surrounding art centers, galleries, and museums. Plus, there’s no better way to enjoy the pristine and lush grounds of the Civic Center Park, located a short drive from many Scottsdale golf communities.
