Spending Labor Day Weekend 2022 in Sedona

Sedona has long been known as one of Arizona’s most beautiful places, and it’s not a terribly long drive from Scottsdale. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

Chapel of the Holy Cross. Chapel of the Holy Cross is open to the public, and it’s probably the most iconic of Sedona’s off-the-beaten-path attractions. It was built in the 1950s, right into the red rock buttes, and it’s on the National Register of Historic Places.
Cathedral Rock Trail. Cathedral Rock Trail is 1.2 miles in length, and it’s a little tough – but well-worth the views. Most people complete it in a little over an hour.
Devil’s Bridge Trail. Devil’s Bridge is the largest natural sandstone arch in Sedona, and it’s breathtaking. The whole hike is about 1.8 miles, and it’s moderately difficult. The bridge hangs 50 feet over the ground below, and you’re welcome to stand on it (and pose for a picture).
Seven Sacred Pools. Seven Sacred Pools is a fabulous hike – and it’s typically pretty easy to do (the parking is another story, though). Clocking in at 1.1 miles, this out-and-back trail takes you to a beautiful natural water feature. Just keep in mind that the trailhead doesn’t open until 8 a.m. and the parking area closes at 6 p.m.

Spending Labor Day Weekend 2022 in Flagstaff

When it’s time to cool down and beat the heat, heading north is one way to do it. Flagstaff is a gorgeous community with sweeping landscapes, lush mountains and so much more. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

San Francisco Peaks. The San Francisco range is a volcanic mountain range, and it’s the highest point in Arizona. You can drive to the top, or if you’re feeling ambitious, hike it. Either way, the views are incredible.
The Lowell Observatory. The Lowell Observatory was founded in 1894, and it’s best known for its discovery of Pluto. It’s open to the public, and you can take a tour or just enjoy the views from the grounds.
Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. Sunset Crater is an inactive volcano, and it last erupted in the 11th century. Today, it’s a beautiful place to hike, and you can even see the remnants of the lava flow from its last eruption.
Wupatki National Monument. Wupatki National Monument is home to ruins of an ancient pueblo people. The site includes a number of well-preserved buildings, and it’s a fascinating place to explore.

Spending Labor Day Weekend in Yuma

Yuma is a great place to escape, and it’s right on the Arizona-California border. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

The Territorial Prison State Historic Park. The Territorial Prison State Historic Park is the site of the former Yuma Territorial Prison. It’s a fascinating place to explore, and you can even take a tour of the prison.
The Colorado River. The Colorado River runs through Yuma, and it’s a great place to cool off. You can go rafting, tubing or just enjoy a leisurely float.
The Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park. The Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park is the site of a former military supply depot. It’s a great place to walk around and tour of the grounds, so if you’re a history buff, you’ll love it.

Spending Labor Day Weekend in Tucson

Tucson is a beautiful city, and it has so much to offer. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a great place to learn about the desert. It’s also a great place to see some of the animals that live in the desert, and you can even take a tour.
The Pima Air and Space Museum. The Pima Air and Space Museum is one of the largest aerospace museums in the world. It’s a great place to see some amazing aircraft, and you can even take a tour of the grounds.
The Tucson Botanical Gardens. The Tucson Botanical Gardens is a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy the flowers. You can even take a tour of the gardens, and if you’re lucky, you might even see a hummingbird or two.
Mount Lemmon. Mount Lemmon is the highest peak in the Santa Catalina Mountains, and it’s one of the Sky Islands in the Coronado National Forest. Download the Mount Lemmon Science Tour by the University of Arizona to listen to on your drive up; it’s amazing! After you reach the top, visit the small town of Summerhaven (and its general store).

Bisbee is a historic mining town, and it’s a great place to spend Labor Day Weekend. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

The Copper Queen Mine. The Copper Queen Mine is a historic mine that’s open to the public. You can take a tour of the mine, and you can even pan for gold.
The Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum. The Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum is a great place to learn about the history of mining in Bisbee. You can even take a tour of the museum, and you can see some of the historic mining equipment.
The Lavender Pit. The Lavender Pit is an abandoned mine you can look down in – and it’s well worth it. It’s named for Harrison M. Lavender, the man who originally planned its existence.
The Bisbee Breakfast Club. Their food is second-to-none, but save some of your bacon for Goldie – she’s the town’s mayor, and she happens to be a golden retriever who hangs out near the restaurant during the day.
Historic Lowell. Lowell was once a pretty big mining town just southeast of Bisbee. Today, the main street (Erie Street) is frozen in time; you can get a peek at the early 1900s when you stroll through.

Spending Labor Day Weekend in Tombstone

Tombstone is a historic town, and it’s best known for the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. While you’re there, check out these attractions:

The O.K. Corral. The O.K. Corral is the site of the famous gunfight, and it’s a great place to learn about the history of the town. You can even take a tour of the corral, and you can see some of the historic guns.
The Bird Cage Theater. The Bird Cage Theater is a historic theater that’s still in operation today. You can take a tour of the theater, and you can even see a show.
The Tombstone Epitaph. The Tombstone Epitaph is the oldest newspaper in Arizona, and it’s a great place to learn about the history of the town. You can even take a tour of the office, and you can see some of the historic newspapers.

Pro Tip: Bisbee and Tombstone are within a short drive of each other, so it’s feasible to spend one day in each when you head south of Tucson for one or the other.
