3 Tried-and-True Ways to Get Weeds Out of Your Yard Before You Sell Your Home
When you’re selling a golf course home in Scottsdale, your REALTOR® will talk to you about your landscaping and how much it affects your curb appeal – and even having a few stray weeds among the rocks can affect the way buyers think about your house. But some weeds are prickly, tough to kill and even harder to dig up, so what can you do? This guide outlines three tried-and-true ways to get weeds out of your rock yard before you sell your home, and the best part is that you can use these methods in your new place, too.

3 Tried-and-True Ways to Get Weeds Out of Your Yard Before You Sell Your Home

Many yards in Scottsdale have weed barriers beneath the rocks, and that’s great – but sometimes, the barriers fail. When that happens, weeds pop up all over your landscaping; the toughest part is that sometimes, they drop their seeds in the ground before you pull them. Unfortunately, that means you have a perpetual job on your hands. Weeds pop up as fast as you can pull them out, so you need to prevent the seeds in the ground from taking root.
You can use these three methods to eradicate weeds before you sell your house:

Here’s a closer look at each.

Method #1 to Kill Weeds in a Rock Yard: Table Salt or Epsom Salt

Hands-down, table salt or Epsom salt are the best weed-killers available, and they won’t harm the environment. You can use as much as you need (and then some, just to be sure). To use either of these salts, boil two parts water with one part salt. Pour the solution directly on the weeds.
Pro Tip: You can combine your saltwater solution with dish soap as an added safety measure.

Method #2 to Kill Weeds in a Rock Yard: White Vinegar

White vinegar is exceptional at killing weeds, but the kind you buy from the grocery store isn’t strong enough for the job. You need to find a white vinegar solution that’s 15 to 20 percent acetic acid – and that’s not in the condiment aisle at your favorite supermarket. Instead, it’s at your favorite home and garden store.
If you’re going to use white vinegar, it’s a good idea to trim the weeds first. Cut as far down as you can, and if possible, pull them out of the ground completely. Pour the vinegar on the weed’s stump (or on the place it was once thriving to make sure you get the seeds in the ground, too).
Use white vinegar on a sunny day to burn the weeds.
Pro Tip: You can use pickling vinegar or apple cider vinegar instead – just make sure it’s 15 to 20 percent acetic acid.

Method #3 to Kill Weeds in a Rock Yard: Weed Herbicide

Use herbicide as a last resort. Herbicides work best when they’re made from these chemicals:

You should talk to an expert before you use an herbicide; some are dangerous for pets and other animals, and many are also dangerous to humans. Also, make sure you closely follow the directions on the product’s packaging.
