2 fun summer exhibits at the Heard Museum in Phoenix: Chocolate and LEGO®

Looking for fun museum exhibits to see before the end of summer? Well, the Heard Museum near downtown Phoenix has two. After all, who doesn’t love a little LEGO® and Chocolate?
Founded in 1929 by Dwight and Maie Heard, the Heard Museum is “dedicated to the sensitive and accurate portrayal of Native arts and cultures”. The museum’s objective is to create a variety of unique exhibitions that pair the stories of American Indians with personal, eye-catching art.

Here are 2 fun summer exhibits at the Heard Museum:
BUILD! Toy Brick Art at the Heard
(Now through September 28, 2014)

If your kids saw and loved The LEGO Movie that came out in February (and if you secretly loved it, too), chances are they’ll want to see the LEGO® exhibit at the Heard. You’d be amazed at the art pieces that can be created with a bunch of square blocks.
The exhibit has a mix of display pieces and hands-on stations, so there’s no way your kids will get bored.
Display highlights include Steve Yazzie’s Lego coyote and Sean Kenney’s “Bicycle Triumphs Traffic”.

Chocolate, Chili and Cochineal: Changing Taste Around the World
(Now through November 2, 2014)

Did you know that chocolate is derived from cacao trees found in Mexico, Central American and South America? So that Belgium chocolate you’re eating? Yeah, the cocoa in it didn’t come from Europe. Spoiler alert.
This exhibit has art that focuses on food. Specifically, it focuses on food that people may not know came from the Americas. On top of chocolate, there are various depictions of tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, avocados, maple syrup, corn, beans and squash. Warning:  You may leave the exhibit feeling hungry!
