The master-planned community of Desert Mountain was established in 1986 by Taliesin Associated Architects, a company founded by world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright believed architecture should be rooted in environmentally-conscious practices, so every development in Desert Mountain respects the area’s surrounding desert.
There are 35 “villages” scattered across the 8,000 acre Desert Mountain community. Desert Mountain properties suit every lifestyle as the community has everything from villas and town homes to luxury estates and custom home sites.
Desert Mountain Golf Club
The private club at Desert Mountain has 6 Championship Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses – it is the only golf course in the world to have this incredible resource. To support each of these courses, Desert Mountain has built 5 separate clubhouses that offer both formal and casual dining. Golfers at Desert Mountain should take advantage of the course’s Performance Center, a state-of-the-art indoor-outdoor teaching and practice facility. Desert Mountain’s 3 golf pros on staff can also help you with any golf-related inquiries. Desert Mountain is home to the PGA Schwab Cup, an event that attracts professional golfers from all over the world. Desert Mountain members also have access to pools, spas, fitness facilities and 9 hard clay and grass tennis courts.
School-aged children within the Desert Mountain community generally attend these schools in the Cave Creek Unified School District: Black Mountain Elementary School, Sonoran Trails Middle Schools and Cactus Shadows High School.

Desert Mountain is the only club in the world to have 6 Championship Jack Nicklaus Signature courses on-site. Each course has its own Clubhouse with casual and elegant dining options. It is the annual home to the Schwab Cup, a PGA event attracting the top golfers in the world.
The six golf courses offer a wide variety of scenic vistas and golfing challenges. Yardages range from just over 5,100 on Renegade and Outlaw to a very challenging 7,414-yards on Geronimo; and you can vary up the tees to make it any combination of yardages in between.
Cochise Course – A “major” stop on the PGA’s Senior Tour. 7,019-yards and surrounded by the Sonoran Desert. It rates at 72.7 with a slope of 144.
Renegade Course – Known as the “nice” course, letting the player decide how challenging a round to play due to two pin placements at every hole.
Apache Course – Built in 1996, the course measures 7,300 yards and sports a more accommodating par-72. Of all the courses this is a traditional desert course.
Geronimo Course – The Geronimo Course starts out gently on the front 9, but the back is much more challenging. Geronimo has big changes in elevation. It is 7,414 yard course and rates a respectable 75.2.
Chiricahua Course – The 7,424-yard par-72 layout sits high over the other Desert Mountain courses and has majestic views. It has open fairways and plenty of bailout areas around the greens.
Outlaw Course – Outlaw is links-style course very different from the rest of the courses at Desert Mountain. It is viewed by many as the most challenging of the 6 courses that make up Desert Mountain. There are no homes on the course and clear views of Pinnacle Peak, the McDowell Mountains and Four Peaks. It is a walker-friendly course.
Desert Mountain members also enjoy a 9 court tennis complex with hard clay and grass surfaces. There are luxurious pools, state of the art exercise facilities and a spa on-site. Members also have access to the Performance Center that is Desert Mountain’s golf practice/technique facility with 3 golf pros on staff.
